Wallpaper - Iris & Thistle Ornament, Dove

Our Iris & Thistle Ornament wallpaper, created by Imary, brings together classical damask symmetry and fluid Art Nouveau line work in a calm palette of soft dove gray, slate blue undertones, and crisp white. Detailed botanical motifs of curling vines, stylized irises, and decorative thistles interlock across the surface, creating a rhythmic visual flow with a painted drawing character. The balanced, medium-scale repeat keeps the intricate botanical detail feeling orderly rather than busy on the wall. Produced made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface structure, this design offers an understated, heritage-inspired backdrop for modern and classic interiors alike.

In the room

We especially like this design in spaces where its ornamental detail can be appreciated up close as well as from across the room. In a living room or dining room, the symmetrical floral layout works well across all four walls to create an enveloping, classic atmosphere, or along an accent wall behind a sofa or dining table where the continuous pattern frames the furniture. The soft contrast between dove gray and white makes it equally well suited to a bedroom or dressing room, where the decorative character adds visual interest without overwhelming the space. In a hallway, staircase, or powder room, the upward movement of the curling vines helps draw the eye smoothly across narrower wall areas.

Styling it

The heritage botanical character of this wallpaper pairs naturally with traditional, vintage, or classic interior styles. We suggest combining it with:

• Furniture in warm wood tones or painted finishes in soft off-white, muted charcoal, or pale gray to echo the neutral base of the motif.
• Tailored upholstery in matte woven fabrics like wool or cotton, which balance the detailed curves of the pattern with clean, solid textures.
• Subtle metal hardware in antiqued brass or blackened iron to give the ornamental line work a grounded, timeless presence in the room.

Colour combinations

The palette within the wallpaper centers on a soft neutral dove gray layered with subtle slate blue notes and bright white accents in the fine floral linework. When selecting surrounding paint colors for adjacent walls, trim, or cabinetry, we recommend working with clean chalky whites, pale dove grays, or deep slate blues that pick up the quiet undertones of the pattern. For a slightly richer contrast, muted navy, deep charcoal, or soft olive green accents in cushions, throws, or curtains sit comfortably alongside the cool neutral tones of the design.
