Wallpaper - Lights Up

Created by Kate Jarvik Birch, our Lights Up wallpaper captures the atmospheric hum of an evening city street in the rain. Expressive, painterly brushstrokes depict glowing traffic signals, illuminated street lamps, and vehicle headlights reflecting across wet asphalt under a deep twilight sky. The composition contrasts cool indigo, slate, and teal blues with radiant bursts of amber, crimson, and golden yellow. Printed made-to-measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle physical surface structure, this design brings rich urban mood and artistic depth to any interior wall.

In the room

Because of its painterly perspective and rich color contrast, we see this mural wallpaper working particularly well on a main feature wall in a living room, dining space, or a dedicated home office. In a living room, placing the design on a wide, uninterrupted wall behind a low sofa allows the full street scene and its vertical light reflections to be appreciated without interruption. In an entryway or hallway, the dynamic perspective creates an inviting sense of depth as you enter the home. The rich blue backdrop also makes it an expressive choice for a study or media room where you want a cozy, immersive environment.

Styling it

We recommend letting the expressive painterly character of the artwork anchor the space while keeping large surrounding furnishings relatively grounded. Low-profile seating in deep charcoal, navy, or textured warm gray balances the visual weight of the street scene without competing with its details. To echo the warm glowing accents in the motif, pair the wallpaper with warm timber finishes such as walnut, smoked oak, or matte black metal accents on lighting and table frames. Keeping textiles understated in solid weave fabrics prevents pattern clash and lets the brushwork remain the visual focus of the room.

Colour combinations

The palette of our wallpaper is built around a foundation of deep twilight blue, muted teal, slate gray, and indigo, punctuated by vibrant reflections in amber, crimson red, marigold yellow, and warm cream. When decorating around it, deep ink blue or muted charcoal on adjacent walls or trim creates a continuous, moody backdrop that enhances the glow of the lights. For a brighter contrast, soft off-white or light stone on neighboring walls provides clean definition, while accessories in ochre, burnt orange, or brass will subtly draw out the glowing city lights.
