Wallpaper - USA Modern

Designed by Michael Mullan, our USA Modern wallpaper reimagines the map of the United States through bold typography and mid-century graphic styling. Each state is rendered with its own block-letter lettering, fitting together like a visual puzzle across a weathered, warm parchment-toned background with subtle grid lines and a classic compass rose. The vibrant palette balances rich tones of teal, olive green, warm mustard yellow, terracotta, and deep red, giving the map a screenprint-inspired look. Like all Wallism wallpapers, this design is made-to-measure to fit your wall dimensions and printed on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure.

In the room

Because the map composition forms a complete, self-contained graphic motif, we find it works best on a main accent wall where the full silhouette of the country can be viewed without heavy interruption. It brings great energy to a home office, study, or library, creating an engaging visual backdrop behind a desk or reading nook. In a playroom, teenage room, or family living room, the detailed typography naturally invites closer look and reading, making the wall both decorative and fun to explore. A wider wall allows the surrounding parchment background and grid detailing to frame the map naturally, balancing the denser typographic center.

Styling it

The mid-century graphic character of this mural pairs naturally with clean-lined furniture and casual, retro-leaning spaces. We recommend keeping nearby furnishings relatively simple in silhouette so the strong typography on the wall remains the focal point. Low-profile wooden desks, open shelving, or simple seating work nicely against the motif without cutting across the central map shapes. In terms of materials, warm mid-tone woods like walnut or teak complement the retro screenprint look, while matte black metal accents provide a clean, modern anchor that echoes the crisp edges of the lettering.

Color combinations

The artwork features a rich multi-colored palette including teal, olive green, mustard gold, terracotta red, and warm cream. To create a cohesive room scheme, consider pulling one of the deeper accent tones, such as warm terracotta or forest green, onto surrounding painted walls or built-in bookshelves. For a lighter, more open feel, soft off-white, warm beige, or light sand tones echo the vintage parchment background and let the colorful states stand out sharply.
