Wallpaper - Stormy Seas

Our Stormy Seas wallpaper brings the fluid energy of deep ocean water into the home through an expressive, painterly composition created by artist Danhui Nai. Broad brushstrokes and dynamic layers of deep blue, teal, and cool white foam capture the movement of crashing waves set against a darker horizon. What we particularly appreciate about this design is the balance between sweeping abstract gestures and the textural quality of oil paint brushwork. Printed made-to-measure on our PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, it works equally well as an expansive landscape across a main wall or as a dramatic backdrop in more intimate areas.

In the room

In a living room or dining room, we like positioning this design on an open, uninterrupted wall where the full horizon and wave crests can unfold without tall furniture breaking the horizontal movement. The darker sky and deep blue tones give the wall significant visual presence, making it an effective focal point behind a low credenza or sofa.

For a bedroom or guest room, placing the design behind the headboard grounds the space with a restful, sea-inspired backdrop while letting the white foam accents catch the light. In smaller rooms such as a home office, den, or entry, wrapping the wallpaper around a focal nook or entryway alcove creates an immersive, atmospheric atmosphere right from the doorway.

Styling it

We suggest balancing the expressive motion of the waves with furniture featuring clean lines and grounded shapes. Low-profile seating and minimalist shelving keep the emphasis on the painting rather than competing with the fluid brushwork.

Warm natural wood tones, such as rich walnut or warm oak, introduce an appealing organic warmth against the cool teal and navy palette. Keeping surrounding textiles relatively simple, in smooth matte weaves or unpatterned fabrics, allows the visual texture in the wallpaper to carry the decorative weight of the room.

Colour combinations

The palette in our design centers on deep blues, ocean teal, and cool sea-foam whites set against a muted, stormy sky.

To complement these shades, we recommend using warm off-whites, soft greys, or muted sandstone on adjacent walls and woodwork to balance the cool undertones. If you prefer a richer and more cohesive scheme, echoing the deep navy or midnight blue on nearby trim, shelving, or upholstered pieces will anchor the entire space.
