Wallpaper - Formation

Our Formation wallpaper brings an expressive desert landscape to life through the fluid, painterly brushwork of artist Kristy Rice. Saffron orange rock pillars and rich purple formations rise against an expansive wash of sky, framed by warm yellow foreground strokes and earthy red tones along the horizon. The watercolor technique gives the entire motif an airy, hand-painted appearance with visible pigment bleeding and soft color transitions. Printed as a custom made-to-measure mural, this PVC-free wallpaper introduces bold artistic energy to a room while maintaining a dreamy, open atmosphere.

In the room

Because the composition features a distinct horizon with tall, slender stone towers reaching into the upper sky, we find this design works exceptionally well on wide, uninterrupted walls. In a living room or vacation home, placing the wallpaper behind a low sofa or dining table keeps the foreground lines visible while allowing the dramatic desert spires to anchor the vertical height of the space. In a creative space like an art studio, the sweeping landscape format offers a sense of depth and openness, making compact areas feel visually larger without crowding the room with dense repeating patterns.

Styling it

We recommend pairing this vibrant mural with furniture that balances its artistic warmth. Clean-lined mid-century or modern pieces in warm wood tones, such as teak or walnut, ground the saffron and terra cotta notes nicely. Low-profile seating and unadorned surfaces prevent the landscape from feeling obstructed, letting the distinctive watercolor washes remain the clear focal point of the room. A Southwestern-inspired approach also feels natural here, pairing smoothly with neutral clay ceramics, matte blackened iron accents, or textured woven rugs that echo the sand-toned brushwork in the foreground.

Colour combinations

The design is defined by rich saffron orange, warm yellow, deep purple, and vivid blue washes, accented by touches of magenta and earthy red. Around the wallpaper, we suggest keeping neighboring walls in soft off-white, light warm sand, or pale plaster tones so the vibrant landscape can stand out comfortably. For trim, cabinetry, or larger upholstery, deeper terracotta, muted ochre, or dark plum can pick up on the darker mineral shades of the rock formations, creating a cohesive, grounded color palette throughout the space.
