Wallpaper - Gilded Thistle II

Our Gilded Thistle II wallpaper, designed by Chris Paschke, brings together bold botanical illustration and abstract composition. The motif features two stylized, thistle-like flower heads rendered with fine, radiating black lines that create an intriguing graphic energy. A distinct vertical split divides the background, placing one bloom against crisp white and the other across a textured mocha brown surface, while vibrant yellow accents at the centers provide a vivid focal point. Made to measure on PVC-free paper with a subtle surface structure, this design offers a striking balance of graphic precision and earthy warmth.

In the room

Because of the strong tonal contrast between the two halves of the design, we especially like this wallpaper on a wide, uninterrupted wall where both sides have room to breathe. In a living room, placing it along the main wall behind a sofa allows the full visual dialogue between the deep brown backdrop and the white negative space to unfold naturally. In a home study, the fine radiating linework introduces a focused, artistic presence without overwhelming the space. The visual weight of the darker right side naturally anchors one end of the room, making it an effective choice for defining seating areas or creative workspaces within an open layout.

Styling it

The combination of organic motifs and clean graphic dividing lines makes this wallpaper particularly well suited to contemporary and organic modern interiors. To complement the artwork without competing with its bold character, we suggest keeping surrounding furnishings relatively streamlined:

• Choose low-profile furniture with clean silhouettes, such as a tailored sofa or a slim writing desk, to keep the fine line work of the thistles in clear view.
• Introduce warm wood pieces in walnut or medium-toned oak to echo the rich mocha background and ground the lighter side of the composition.
• Use matte black metal lighting or hardware to reflect the crisp ink-style drawing while maintaining a modern, understated edge.

Colour combinations

The design relies on a verified palette of rich mocha brown, crisp white, deep black, and concentrated golden yellow. When selecting paint colors for adjacent walls or trim, off-white or soft alabaster tones pair seamlessly with the left half of the mural wallpapers, creating an airy transition. If you prefer a moodier, more enveloping atmosphere, continuing a complementary warm brown or deep taupe onto neighboring surfaces draws directly from the right panel. For smaller decorative accents and soft textiles, restrained touches of mustard or ochre can subtly pick up the bright centers of the flowers.
